In the dead of night, upon the quaint steps of a church in the Twelveswood, a small basket was nestled amidst a sea of tattered quilts and cloth. The cloth stirred with each shiver of the wind, and a hiccupping wail broke the silence until those who called the humble building home answered its desperation.Such was how Asriel entered the world as a newborn babe, abandoned to the charity of the pious. He was reared amidst orphans and devotees of the Twelve, ever seeking a footing in his life and ever plagued by the unknown nature of his origins.

Eventually, a day arrived when he'd come of age and was turned out into the world in hopes that he might make his own way within it. With his predisposition for knowledge, and gift for the arcane, it was not long before he found opportunity in the broader world... If only he'd been wise enough to know it was littered with hidden thorns and would carry him down a dark path.At the tender age of seventeen, as the aftermath of the Calamity rocked the whole of Eorzea, he swore devotion to his arcane master, the leading priestess of a radical sect of the Lambs of Dalamud. He dedicated his life to Menphina and in service of cleansing the world of sin. There he grew to master the arcane, excelling at his newfound life with a particular zeal. He scaled the ranks of his newfound home, and earned a rather far-reaching reputation for his earnest, if not brutal, faith. As with all rises, however, come the falls.

As the story goes, fate conspired with the keeper of hearts to spin a web that would entangle him in a fiery dance. He fell in love. Then lost it.The gentle light of Menphina touched his tender heart and opened his eyes, only to scorn all that he had become. Ashamed of himself, he abandoned the Lambs of Dalamud for a life in opposition to the beliefs he once championed. Though he would like nothing more than to leave the past behind him, his sins crawl upon him like fleas, and a sinister secret looms over his head with the force of a guillotine's blade.

Asriel is an arcane master specializing in sigilwork, Arcanima. From the days of his youth, into his adulthood, it's been noted that he has an uncanny ability with the craft, and a rather brilliant mind for magick. In many ways, he appears built for it... and very little else. This suits him fine, for he finds there is little he is more enthused by than the practice of his arts. He is a mage, through and through, and, like many mages before him, predisposed to reckless tendencies in the pursuit of power. He is a passionate man, possessed of strong feelings and an earnest sense of his own morality and faith. Often, he feels and acts before he thinks, but one can (usually) be certain that his heart rests in the right place. While he can be difficult to get close to, he forms strong bonds with those companions who do work their way beyond his peculiarities and emotional barriers.

High within the skies of Etheryis roves the Island of Imani, a jewel of the heavens themselves if the tales are to be believed. She was stolen from the Sea of Clouds by a rag tag group of sky-pirates, and tamed into a home that knows no boundary and no authority but her own.Though once comprised of a simple marketplace intended to function beyond the reach of the City-States, Imani has since grown into a functional nation herself, playing host to a proud, hard-working population. Truly, she is well known amidst those who've heard of her as a kingdom of Second Chances, where one will be measured not by their past, but by the measure of the work and present word.It is here that Asriel makes his home, serving as an Arcane advisor to one of the three Pirate Lords who serve as the island's governing body.

The Goldenfeather Tavern's bard, Colm is an avid musician who resides upon the Island of Imani. As a member of Voyce Oswell's crew, the Fate's Threads, he was present for the foundation of the island, and has consequentially come to wear a variety of hats over his years with the motley crew of sky pirates. Primarily, he served as a frontline fighter, information specialist, and Gunblade expert, prior to taking up the role of an entertainer.Generally speaking, he's a genial man with an extensive reputation as, well... A lover, they might say. He and Asriel have formed what they view as a complicated relationship over the time in which they've known one another, serving as mutual companions through good and hard times. At present, they live together in a cottage on the island.

Fern Oswell is a sky pirate of remarkable repute, better known as The Red Widow of the Sanguine Widows. As deadly as she is beautiful, she has been known to strike fear into the hearts of many who happen across her airship amongst the clouds. However, for the Island of Imani, and for Asriel, she is simply Fern, one of the three Pirate Lords and master of the island's security and defenses. Alongside her Widows, she ensures that the island, and its market, remain peaceful.Fern is a straight-forward woman, with little time for those who would waste hers. Even so, to those who've grown to know her, she can be comforting and reliable, a steadfast ally who returns that with which she is met.

Voyce Oswell, the Bloody Falcon, is Captain of the Fate's Threads, and one of the three Lords of the floating island, Imani. He serves with a rather wide range of authority, some say acting as the 'voice' for Imani's elusive 'King'. Despite his relative youth, Voyce is an accomplished pirate, who has largely set down the mantle in favor of managing The Cursed Coin market and his duties to the island upon which she sits. He is a master of coin, and a master of business, as sharp in such matters as he is in rifle aim.Over the course of Asriel's time upon Imani, Voyce has become an exceptionally close confident, providing guidance throughout their travels and assistance in personal matters. Asriel provides arcane expertise and wisdom to the Lord Oswell in exchange for his residency.

The Carbuncles

Julia is Asriel's favored carbuncle, born of an aetherically dense sapphire and uniquely structured to serve as an assistant and defender. She is a master of shields, and is said to have committed Asriel's working knowledge into aetherical memory, making her an exceptionally valuable encyclopedia. In addition to this, Julia often serves as an 'emotional support carbuncle', having existed throughout the most trying of times.Julius is a topaz carbuncle, crafted from a sturdy gem to withstand extremely toxic aetherical exposure. While not pretty to look at, he's remarkably stable, and is, perhaps, Asriel's tankiest carbuncle.Juliette is the youngest of Asriel's carbuncle creations. Born of a fine, fiery ruby, she acts as an aggressive fighter, dishing out remarkable bursts of aetherical energy. She can be tempermental, and thus is utilized as a last resort more often than not.

The Church of the Twelve

Founded during the Second Era, the Church of the Twelve is a religious organization dedicated to the preservation of theological knowledge and charitable aid. Their chapter churches are staple features of many rural villages within the Twelveswood, bordering the Sea of Jade, where their primary cathedral is located.Asriel was left upon the steps of one of their chapter churches, within the village of Blackwood. He grew up amidst the clergy and the orphans they cared for within the village, and remains a rather avid practitioner of the Church's ideals to this day.

Levieaux Auclair

Brother Levieaux Auclair is the overseeing clergymember representing the Church of the Twelve within the village of Blackwood. There, he acts as an authority figure, managing resources and care for the small settlement, as well as coordinating the local clergy to best meet the needs of the community in which they serve. On the fateful night Asriel was found within Blackwood as an infant, it was Levieaux who'd discovered him, and it was Levieaux who took up responsibility of caring for him during his early childhood. In this respect, Levieaux is the equivalent of Asriel's father, though neither are inclined to go so far in admitting such. They have a tumultuous relationship, stemming from issues within the past, and often appear at odds with one another despite their overwhelming care for one another.Levieaux is a stern, stoic man of faith, a devotee to Althyk, and is largely considered a pragmatic, cautious man by those who are familiar with him.

Jolene Dawson

Sister Jolene Dawson is broadly considered the 'second in command' within the Village of Blackwood. Whereas her counterpart, Brother Levieaux Auclair, serves as the head of operational affairs for the village, Jolene is the first point of interaction for most seeking the Church's aid or guidance and thus fills the role of community outreach. She is a wholesome, jovial woman with a heart said to rival a saint's. Her goodnatured mannerisms, and natural hospitality, make her a well-liked, motherly figure within the Church, particular amongst denizens of the infirmary and the orphange.Asriel spent much of his youth between her and Levieaux in terms of his care, and to say Jolene did not leave a mark upon his soul would be a gross injustice to the care she provided him. She is a mother-like figure to him, doting, enthused, and concerned all in one.

Tavi'a Rouska

Tavi'a Rouska was an acolyte to Menphina going through his ordainment with the Church of the Twelve to become a member of their clergy. At the time in which he sought entrance into the Church, tension between the rural settlements and neighboring miqo'te families was at an all-time high. It is broadly known that Tavi'a longed to bridge the racial divide between his people and their neighbors, and it's widely speculated that this was a motivating factor in the path he chose to take.As his family, a group of shepherds and weavers, made their home near the village of Blackwood, and held a particularly good relationship with the clergy, Tavi'a became an acolyte with the Church and spent much of his time studying the ins and outs of theology and conjury. He was said to be an avid avid outdoorsman, with a cheeky sense of humor and a kind personality.

During his time in Blackwood, he became aware of Asriel, by then a full-fledged member of the Lambs of Dalamud, and made it a personal mission to try and draw him away from the cult. The two became fast friends, meeting in secret out within the forest. Their friendship eventually blossomed into a young romance, lasting up until Tavi'a's untimely death at the hands of Asriel's arcane master, Evelyn, in a sacrificial ritual that would alter the course of Asriel's life in dramatic ways.

The Lambs of Dalamud

As the aftermath of the Calamity shook the world, Asriel found himself alone, having aged out of care within Blackwood's church. He travelled to Gridania in search of a place to belong, only to find himself all the more alone by the time he'd gotten there. It was during his struggles near the city-state that he encountered a woman who would become his arcane master, Evelyn. She offered him a better life, that would make use of his talents, and would allow him to serve in his faith to Menphinal; a life within her following, an extremist sect of the Lambs of Dalamud.Evelyn's Lambs are dedicated to the fall of the modern world, seeking to bring about its destruction so that Menphina's paradise might be born upon the ashes when "the true Dalamud" comes to clense the world of its sin. They believe the lesser moon that fell was a false Dalamud, and that the real Dalamud has yet to return.

They are widely composed of the downtrodden and outcasts, each working towards the goal of paradise in hopes of building a better tomorrow for themselves and those like them.During his time with Evelyn's Lambs, Asriel rose to become a prominent figure, a ruthless zealot dedicated to the cause. He was trained in a wide variety of magic schools, many of which would bve considered forbidden by civil society.A day came in which Asriel grew apart from the Lambs teachings and was forced to flee and renounce his former life. He has been at odds, embroiled in conflict, with the group ever since.

Evelyn

Evelyn dwells amidst the shadows of the Twelveswood, a ghost of a woman spoken of in hushed whispers and never by name. To many, she is a bed time story to tell children - a duskwight woman who appears alongside the coming of tragedy, bringing it with a gentle smile and a bit of quiet, poised grace. The truth of the matter is that she is a remarkably powerful mage, utilizing her powers to bring about her perceived vision of justice for the wrongs committed against the marginalized. She is a woman of extremes and focus, rarely deviating from her own, often private, plans. As charismatic as she is, she seldom hurts for followers, and shepherds them with the grace of a subtle puppeteer. While Asriel was within the Lambs of Dalamud, she served as his arcane master and head priestess, a close confidant and mentor until the day she betrayed his trust.

Hooks

✧ Aether Sensitive?Asriel's unique aetheric signature is marked by a particular taint, as the man is under the effects of a seemingly permanent, potent curse. One may describe it as rotten and corrupting, a taint touched by death's foul breath, that waxes and wanes alongside the light of the moon.

✧ Criminal Underbelly?Asriel is possessed of a less than stellar reputation amidst the denizens of the Black Shroud. Most regard him as a hoodlum, a vandal, or a thief, and he has the record to boot.

✧ Religious? Devout and Faithful?A holy practitioner? A priest, a priestess? Asriel grew up within a church, tethered to the charitable networks of the Twelveswood. Unlike many of his peers, Asriel was never adopted by a family, and thus spent his youth growing particularly familiar with the priesthood. Those embedded within the practice may, at most, be familiar with him in passing as having been under the care of an orphanage run by the Church of the Twelve, within a small village known as Blackwood.Asriel himself is a devout follower of the Twelve, with a particular love for the Goddess of Love, Menphina. He is a frequent patron of holy sites and temples.

✧ Possessed of Arcane Knowledge?Though Asriel's body is often covered from the neck downward, one may occasionally catch a glimpse of arcane runes etched along his arms, from the back of his hands to the curve of his shoulders. Those with knowledge of Arcanima may recognize these geometric sigils as the type of symbols one keeps written within their grimoire.Likewise, Asriel is rarely ever seen without a leather tome attached to his side via a specially designed holster for book carrying and travel.

✧ Familiar with the Lambs of Dalamud?
( requires discussion with player first )
Asriel was once a prominent member of an extreme sect of the Lambs of Dalamud. Though his name has never been uttered in connection with the groups crimes, rumors exist, telling the tale of a brutal miqo'te. Graced with golden hair and eyes as silver as the moon herself, he was said to be tinged with a darkness so deep it might swallow all who looked upon him. Wheresoever he was found, terror was sure to follow, and thus he has long been dubbed, bitterly, Menphina's 'Loyal' Hound, or the Hound of Dalamud, by those who may have once recognized his presence, or scorned his existence. Not that there are many who have lived to say they've actually seen this rumored man in person.

By all accounts, he vanished years ago, leaving naught but a legacy of violence behind to note his existence. However, once per month, when Menphina's eye opens wide within the sky, some claim an unholy creature stalks the Twelveswood in his name, leading many to believe he has transcended into the ghost of a monster.

Disclaimers

Lore Disclaimer
While I back up all of my story and character decisions with in-game parallels in lore, I am a permissive player and not especially interested in policing the lore of others. However, if something is too lore-breaking, it might not be the best fit for me.
Feel free to ask me about it, though! Like-wise, if you're an exceedingly strict player, I may not be the best of partners for you, as I prefer to play with what is plausible, not only what is stated.

Player is over the age of 21
While I'm happy to encourage younger players to join the hobby and have fun, I prefer to only RP with people who are closer to my age - meaning 21 and up.
Do you Pony Up with MARE?
Yes. When I know you.

Hard Limits

Excessive Violence
I don't mind dark or mature subject matter in RP. However, I draw a line at gratuitous descriptions of violence and gore. Give me Matt Mercer general, please.
Sexual Violence
No. End of discussion. I don't RP this. It's fine if it's in your backstory, but I don't consent to it happening in a scene, or being a witness to it.
ERP
I don't mind adult RP, however, I am not an ERPer. I prefer a narrative focus on my RP interactions. If you're only here to smash and dash, I'm not your guy.
